![]() ![]() ![]() A dying Zordon grants these rebellious teenagers with attitude the power of 'Ouroboros'. Our heroes are two trios from Agnus and Keves who are freed from the aegis of the Flame Clocks. You know something's sinister when it gets a Blade Runner euphemism in inverted commas. If a soldier is lucky enough to hit twenty, they undergo a "Homecoming" ceremony where their body vanishes. Each Ferronis has a 'Flame Clock' that must be filled by slaughtering the opposing faction. Everyone is born from a vat at age ten, and sent packing to serve an army that operates out of a giant mech called a 'Ferronis'. The plot of XC3 is about two factions called Agnus and Keves that fight an endless war orchestrated by an order called Moebius (not affiliated with the French comic artist). It's a vast RPG whose story and systems I can poke many holes, but it is a fantastic game and very much the Xenoblade sequel I was looking for. I got XC3 cheap with a Switch Lite back when Gamestop ran out of lives. The soundtrack sold itself the very moment you heard "Gaur Plain." There might have been 400 too many fetch quests, but it was a step in the right direction for the JRPG genre. It had gorgeous vistas, despite the weak hardware, and you could explore them too. It laid a grand narrative that was easy to follow, complete with relatable characters and earth-shattering twists. The first Xenoblade came a short time later on the humble Wii and was something of an antidote to FFXIII's bullshit. It doesn't matter how gorgeous the production-values were, the story and characters failed to resonate. I gave up 15 hours in as it was simply unbearable. Final Fantasy XIII was a creative dead-end, being painfully linear in both its level-design (Hah!) and its progression systems. It was too costly for JRPGs on console to scale to HD, so most of the gems we remember from the time were on handheld. In the seventh-gen, the JRPG was in a bit of a rut. It's a 100 hour RPG that can stand alone, but is part of a larger series with ties between each game, and also acts as a spiritual remake of two aborted franchises from the same developer.įirst, a history lesson. ![]() There are only two supporting characters returning from prior titles and one eyebrow-raising cameo. Despite the ties to the previous games, XC3 is meant to be a standalone game. Only to scream in agony after impaling their eye on the cake stick. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is about two worlds at war after being merged into one, much like a person getting their face smashed into a cake.
